Backwoods Condo

Had this hot piece of mobile real estate for a few seasons now. We've been putting it in new spots every season. Moved it the first year because forestry said they would destroy it. Moved it year two because the spot had a limited supply of terrain. This years locale is looking mighty fine, however we'll have to see if forestry finds us again. Might have to yank it in the summer and throw it back in the fall.

The last setup was a super beefy timber frame style snow roof made from reclaimed bridge timbers found near our first spot. They were starting to get a bit spongy and rotted so we ditched them if favor of a last minute moderatly half assed stick framed snow roof. Couldn't get it all done in one shot. Had to go in later to do the final touchs. Snowed heavily during that week and struggled for almost three hours in a truck with good clearance and chains on all four corners. Notice the nylon webbing extensions with ratchet straps to hold the roof on. We had some windy days this fall. I wasn't so sure we'd have a roof for our first day riding.

It's over 20km to get in so a sled is kind of necessary. I'm not a fan of the filthy beasts and try to avoid them usually. At least they stay parked for the duration of the stay. It's all hiking once we get to the spot. Maybe I'll man up and try hike in at some point this season....maybe.

The roof was supposed to shed snow. I don't know how it sticks to a tarped roof with a 6:12 pitch. I guess it means we'll have to go up more often and keep it cleared. I can't believe she didn't cave in. Would want to push our luck with more load than this.

Some of the biggest stumps I've seen in the interior. They don't make them like this anymore.

End of the road. The pitch head walled out in a sort of rock with amphitheater with this peak at the end of it.
Indeed.

Almost 3000 ft. down to the door.

Joel showed up that night. Being a family man he can only get away so often. He was more than happy to get a one night stay and a pass for the following day.

The Martin boys fine dining and basking in the wood heat.

Joel is always first up so breakfast seems to be his deal.

I don't eat this well at home.

We never get early starts out here. If the setup was less comfortable we might drag ass out of bed a bit earlier. It's a casual pace. We don't seem to hammer vertical.

Due diligence

Fleeting glimpses of wildlife in the woods.

Joel mid pillow line touch down.

Would love to get out to the old scamper more often. Even getting out a handful of times each year is worth the effort of setting it up.
