New life for old and broken decks

I've been keen try a shorter swallow shape for some time. If you chop the tail just past the effective edge the board should still ride true to length? Seems to be true. The old orange salomon is mine and the banana had a busted tail and was done for a friend. I bought the salomon for cheap and never bothered to ride it with the tail, straight to cutting. Started as a 160cm and is now a 150cm and still rides like a 160 on the groomers.

It handled hard pack as well as any other board I've ridden. Deep snow performance was no joke, easy to float and a super loose tail. Fast turns in tight spots. I'm glad it is a wide board so now I have room to cut some taper into it when I split it. I'm convinced that putting a split kit on it will be well worth the money. Why buy a fish when you can customize and breath some new life into a beater.

  1. Sweet! I've had this idea in my mind for awhile now ... cool to see someone actually doing it. My concern was sealing up the wood core once you cut into it.

  2. Just seal it up with epoxy. Nothing fancy, just been told that one with a longer cure works better.
